Artist Chantal Joffe was commissioned by W Magazine to produce a series of paintings of actress Jessica Chastain.

I  was asked  to document her studio once the paintings had been completed, I enjoyed doing it and was something a little different from shooting people.  There were hundreds of reference pics of the actress around the studio, pretty intense and a lot of paint,

I admire her work, she has a very distinct style of depicting character/mood and she is very much influenced by photography, especially works by Diane Arbus.

Chantal showed me a beautiful book called The Model Wife by Arthur Ollman, a collection of images and text about the relationship between nine photographers and their wives, which included Lee Fridlander , Edward Weston and Alfred Stieglitz.

It’s definitely on my want list!

Like your introductions Suki. It’s nice to have some background to the shoots and definitely adds to the photographs.
